John Kelly begain his racing career in 1972, driving a '58 Ford in the Hobby Stock division at Pan American Speedway in San Antonio, TX and the Austin Speedorama in Austin, TX. While competing weekly at both tracks in only his second year of competition, John captured the Pam American Speedway Chamionship and the Central Texas Championship.
John soon began running weekly in the Late Model division at the San Antonio Raceway at San Antonio, TX., winning the Track Championship in 1985 and in 1986. After achieving much success, in 1988 John joined the newly formed Texas International Drivers Association (TIDA), a touring Late Model asphalt division. He responded by becoming TIDA's first Point Champion. In 1992, the Kelly brothers set two track qualifying records and won two TIDA races. From 93-99 they ran numerous races and captured many wins. In 99 they joined up with Mission Auto Parts, and Hamilton Brothers. In 2001 the team purchased a 2001 Taurus from Keys Racing, and won the first time out with the new car. In 2002, Sponsorships now includes CarQuest Auto Parts, Hi Tach Oil Stabilizer and Mission Auto Parts.
